Statement from Scientell supporting a Yes vote for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament

At Scientell, we support the Yes vote for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. We believe that a constitutionally enshrined Indigenous Voice is a crucial step towards reconciliation, recognising the unique status and rights of First Nation’s people in Australia, and creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

As a science communication company, we recognise the importance of diverse perspectives and inclusive decision-making in shaping effective and equitable policies. An Indigenous Voice to Parliament will ensure that policy discussions encompass a range of experiences, views and insights. It will recognise the unique knowledge systems, cultural heritage and environmental stewardship that Indigenous peoples have cultivated over tens of thousands of years. By incorporating this rich knowledge into policy discussions, we can make more informed decisions.

As science communicators, we understand the critical role of effective communication in bridging gaps and fostering understanding between different communities. We believe that establishing an Indigenous Voice to Parliament is a chance to promote meaningful engagement, consultation, and collaboration with Indigenous communities in decision-making processes that directly affect their lives, Country and culture.

Establishing an Indigenous Voice to Parliament can address the disparities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians in health, housing, education, employment, and social outcomes. The Indigenous Voice to Parliament will ensure that Indigenous perspectives, knowledge and aspirations are heard and valued in formulating policies and legislation. If enshrined in the Australian Constitution, the Voice will have enduring legitimacy and authority, safeguarding it against future political or policy changes that could undermine or dilute its effectiveness.

The Indigenous Voice to Parliament is consistent with Scientell’s commitment to inclusive and culturally sensitive communication practices. It is an opportunity to enhance dialogue and build bridges of understanding and collaboration.

We urge all Australians to support the Yes vote in the referendum for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. It is an overdue, important, and first step towards reconciliation, justice, and equality for all Australians.
