Scientell developed a practical, interactive job interview skills workshop for AUScelerate SA, helping PhD candidates prepare for the next stage of their careers. Combining communication techniques with hands-on exercises and mock interviews, the training focused on helping researchers confidently articulate their skills, experience and value to prospective employers.
Client: AUScelerate SA
Audience: PhD students in the Industry Doctoral Training Centre (IDTC) program

Description
Moving from a PhD into the workforce can be challenging, particularly when it comes to clearly presenting strengths, skills and experiences in a job interview. Scientell developed a tailored 2-hour job interview skills workshop to help AUScelerate SA’s IDTC PhD candidates prepare for interviews and communicate their strengths with confidence.
The workshop combined practical communication techniques with interactive exercises, including aligning experience with position requirements, structuring compelling responses using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result), and handling difficult or unexpected questions.
The workshop placed a strong emphasis on practical application, with more than half the session dedicated to interactive activities. Participants developed mind maps of their skills and achievements, practised responding to common interview questions in a mock interview and received constructive feedback to strengthen their interview techniques.
The training aimed to equip participants with practical tools they could apply to future interviews, helping them present their research experience as valuable, transferable skills for careers beyond academia. The hybrid format was designed to support participation from both in-person and online attendees.
