Communication support for CRC CARE online assessment tools

Scientell provided communication support to develop web-based online tools that assist people in assessing and ranking contaminated land.

Client: CRC CARE

Audience: Consultants, managers, researchers and government representatives working in the assessment and remediation of contaminated land

The Cooperative Research Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC CARE) developed a series of online contaminated site assessment tools: mineCARE™ is an app that helps prioritise and manage remediation of contaminated mine sites; irCARE™ enables identification of carbon contaminants from petroleum in soil; riskCARE™ determines if site contamination poses a risk to human health and the environment of a sufficient magnitude to justify remediation.

Scientell investigated the online tools to advise on the best option for web-hosting, suggesting they be hosted on one domain (crccaretools.com) as a portal leading to each tool. We worked with a web developer, the Webconnector, to improve the user experience of the tools, adding explanatory text to specific pages, advising on improvements to the design, and improving the language in consultation with the researchers. We also developed a series of clear instructional guides for users, edited the content, and provided the user guides in a format that could be loaded onto the improved websites.

Innovative Features

Scientell worked with a web design specialist, Confetti Design, to advise on improving the user experience of the tools. This included creating a dashboard for clear navigation, developing user-friendly design elements, and using the websites to promote other CRC CARE products.
