Meet

Paul Holper

Paul is an experienced science communicator. He is the co-founder and co-Director of Scientell, a science and environment communication company established in 2015. The company specialises in distilling technical information into clear messages for non-technical audiences. Since inception, Scientell has successfully completed more than 60 projects for government, universities, private companies and NGOs, nationally and internationally.

From 2003 to 2014, he managed CSIRO’s involvement in the Australian Climate Change Science Program, the nation’s largest such research activity. He also managed a major CSIRO program developing Australia’s most comprehensive national climate change projections, released in early 2015. Paul convened the Australian climate change science GREENHOUSE conferences in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, each attracting more than 300 Australian and international delegates.

Meet

Simon Torok

Simon is co-Director of Scientell. He has worked in communication for 25 years, including as communication manager for CSIRO in Melbourne and Canberra, as the communication manager for the Tyndall Centre in England, and as editor of science magazines for young people in Australia.

He is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne, on the Advisory Board of the Monash University TV Weather Presenters as Climate Communicators project and is on the Expert Advisory Committee of the Australian Institute of Performance Sciences.

Simon completed a PhD in climate change science at the University of Melbourne, and has a Graduate Diploma in Science Communication from the Australian National University. He has published more than 150 newspaper, magazine and scientific journal articles and, with Scientell’s co-Founder Paul Holper, he has co-authored 19 popular science and climate change books, several of which have been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean and Hungarian.
